Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF sees significant inflows amid defensive shift
The Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF (SCHD) is experiencing significant market interest as investors shift toward defensive strategies. The fund recently saw inflows of approximately $679.26 million within a five-day period, contributing to a 2.39 percent price increase during that window.
Growth in the ETF is supported by its heavy weighting in the healthcare and consumer staples sectors, which comprise about 41 percent of its portfolio. Key holdings such as Merck & Co. and Amgen have provided positive momentum following clinical trial successes and pipeline advancements. Specifically, Merck & Co. reported progress in a Phase-3 study for a personalized mRNA melanoma vaccine, while Amgen initiated a Phase-3 study for a subcutaneous lung cancer medication.
In addition to SCHD, the Overlay Shares Large Cap Equity ETF (OVL) is noted for its active management strategy. Unlike some income-focused ETFs that write call options, OVL utilizes a put credit spread strategy, selling out-of-the-money put options on the S&P 500 while purchasing lower-strike put options for protection.
