Schwarz Group to invest 5.6 billion euros in Dummerstorf data center

The Schwarz Group, owner of Lidl and Kaufland, has announced plans for a massive data center in Dummerstorf, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The project represents a 5.6 billion euro investment, making it the largest single investment in the state to date.

The facility is planned to cover 350,000 square meters with an initial capacity of 240 megawatts. Construction is expected to begin between late 2027 and early 2028, though the timeline is contingent upon the completion of necessary power infrastructure. If the schedule remains on track, the data center is slated to become operational in 2032.

The site will include three multi-story buildings for data center modules, an administrative building, and a substation. To ensure reliability, the facility will feature emergency power systems designed to provide 48 hours of autonomous power in the event of a grid failure. The state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is expected to provide up to 120 million euros in subsidies for the project.
