Schwarzenberg Canal concludes timber floating season

The timber floating season concluded at the historical Schwarzenberg Canal with a celebration involving participants from both sides of the Czech-Austrian border. Despite persistent rain and lower water levels this year, organizers successfully conducted a demonstration float.

Preparation for the event included significant maintenance work. Employees from Lesy České republiky cleared approximately two kilometers of banks from Ježová to the former settlement of Růžový Vrch to prevent tree roots from damaging the historic stone fortifications. On the Austrian side, maintenance was carried out from Iglbach to the timber loading site.

The event featured a cultural program by the Libín-S Prachatice folklore ensemble, who traveled on foot through the forest from the Austrian village of Oberhaag to perform traditional dances. The canal, a historical millrace built by engineer Josef Rosenauer in 1789, required water management efforts, including sealing sluices to ensure sufficient depth for the demonstration.
