Sciacca associations demand clarity over removal of century-old pines

In Sciacca, environmental associations Italia Nostra and ‘Con i piedi per terra’ have formally requested clarifications from the Municipality regarding the removal of four century-old pine trees on Via Catusi.

The associations expressed “deep perplexity and firm reprobation” over the August removal, citing a lack of adequate maintenance by previous administrations to manage root damage to roads and sidewalks. They also questioned the timing of the intervention during the peak month of August and noted that the area has not been properly secured, leaving holes and stumps that pose tripping hazards.

Furthermore, the groups have raised concerns regarding bird nesting regulations and the lack of prior public information, requesting access to agronomic reports and official municipal ordinances related to the decision.
