Sciacca City Council rejects 2025 financial report

The Sciacca City Council has rejected the 2025 financial report following a five-hour debate. The rejection was primarily political in nature, as technical assessments indicate the municipality's finances are balanced. The report shows a management surplus of approximately 546,000 euros, marking a significant shift from previous years of deficit.

Opposition members criticized the administration, arguing that the surplus—cited by some as high as 4.4 million euros in administrative leftovers—demonstrates an inability to effectively spend funds on essential city services and infrastructure. While the municipality has successfully halved the timeline for its recovery plan and addressed previous financial instability, critics maintain that the administration lacks a comprehensive political vision for investment.

Due to the rejection, a regional commissioner appointed with substitute powers will now be responsible for approving the report. The council is scheduled to reconvene on September 7 to begin examining documents related to the upcoming budget forecast.
