Sciacca water tanker operators demand dialogue over service cuts

Giuseppe Milioti, the secretary of Sciacca’s new city council, issued a statement condemning recent actions affecting local water‑tanker drivers. He warned that decisions are being made without consulting the operators who have long ensured water supply for thousands of residents. Milioti called for a constructive dialogue and proposed setting a maximum tariff for users while allowing drivers to receive payments directly, bypassing delayed reimbursements from the public water authority (AICA). He also asked the mayor to temporarily cover transport costs during the emergency phase, arguing that users should not bear penalties for inefficiencies outside their control.

The council secretary emphasized that water‑tanker services are an essential public service and that the drivers deserve respect, fair compensation, and a role in shaping policies that affect their work and the community’s access to water.
