Scicli central post office closure causes local disruption
The closure of the central Poste Italiane office on Corso Mazzini in Scicli is causing significant disruption for citizens, businesses, and workers. The UIL trade union has raised alarms regarding the lack of a clear timeline for the facility's reopening, following maintenance work required to ensure building safety.
The suspension of services has complicated the collection of registered mail and routine postal operations. According to the UIL, the most affected groups are elderly residents and pensioners, who face difficulties traveling to alternative locations. Currently, residents must use the post office in the Jungi village, which many find inconvenient.
UIL regional secretary Giovanni D’Avola has called on the Mayor of Scicli, Mario Marino, to intervene with Poste Italiane to secure a definitive reopening date. While safety is a priority, the union emphasized that better planning of property maintenance could have prevented the closure of this essential local hub. Works are reportedly expected to be completed by October 14.
