Science clubs in Uruguay celebrate 40 years with departmental fairs
Science clubs across Uruguay are celebrating 40 years of educational programming through departmental science fairs held in Lavalleja and Río Negro. These events showcase scientific, social, and technological projects developed by students ranging from early childhood to high school levels.
In Lavalleja, the fair is hosted at UTEC facilities, featuring 25 participating clubs from various localities including Minas, Varela, and Villa de Rosario. The event aims to connect rural and urban educational settings, demonstrating that scientific inquiry occurs beyond traditional laboratories.
In Río Negro, the 40th departmental fair features over 80 projects. This edition serves as an evaluation stage to select 11 projects that will represent the department at the National Science Clubs Fair in Maldonado this November. Both regional events emphasize the importance of fostering scientific thinking and community engagement in students.
