Netflix releases teen rowing drama ‘Crew Girl’
Netflix has released the teen sports drama ‘Crew Girl’, an eight-episode series centered on 16-year-old rower Teagan Tao (Miku Martineau). After her father’s financial crimes lead to an FBI investigation, Teagan relocates to the fictional East Coast town of Eagle’s Cove. Lacking a girls' rowing team at her new school, Easton Prep, she joins the boys' varsity crew as a coxswain.
The series, created by showrunner Vivian Lin, explores themes of class, family secrets, and young adult navigation. It features a central love triangle involving Teagan, Josh Regis (Sam Braun), and Cam Dillinger (Kyle Clark). While the story is set in a prestigious New England institution, it was filmed entirely in Victoria, British Columbia, and surrounding areas on southern Vancouver Island. Notable filming locations include Hatley Castle, which serves as the Easton Prep campus.
Although the series was developed specifically for television, a novelization by Sheila McClure is expected to be released in 2026. The first season concludes with Teagan facing new challenges as the school prepares to establish its own girls' rowing team.
