Science SARU to produce new Ghost in the Shell animated project

Science SARU, the animation studio behind ‘Scott Pilgrim Takes Off’ and ‘DAN DA DAN’, has announced a new animated project based on Masamune Shirow’s iconic cyberpunk manga, ‘The Ghost in the Shell’.

While a specific format, cast, or release window has not yet been confirmed, the production team includes director Moko-chan, series composition and scriptwriter To Enjo, and character designer/animation director Shuhei Handa. The musical score will be a collaborative effort between Taisei Iwasaki, Ryo Konishi, and Yuki Kanesaka.

Originally published in 1989, the franchise has seen various adaptations, including Mamoru Oshii’s influential 1995 film and a 2017 live-action Hollywood production. This new project marks Science SARU’s second involvement with the franchise following a television series released earlier this summer.
