Science Week in Madrid features botanical and biological programming
The Real Jardín Botánico (RJB-CSIC) and the Community of Madrid are hosting various scientific outreach activities as part of Science Week. The programming, running from November 17 to 29, includes workshops, guided tours, and theatrical performances designed to promote inclusive science for students and families.
Key highlights include a theatrical production titled ‘A Través’ focused on biodiversity conservation and climate change adaptation. Other activities include workshops on soil organisms and guided tours of the ‘No acabarán mis flores’ exhibition, which explores the botanical and cultural richness of Mexican flora. Additionally, astrophysicist Enrique Pérez Montero will present ‘Los sonidos de las estrellas,’ a lecture explaining how science transforms stellar vibrations into audible sounds, featuring resources adapted for people with visual impairments.
In a separate initiative, the Community of Madrid is hosting a dedicated space titled ‘Murciélagos: los guardianes de la noche’ (Bats: guardians of the night). This educational stand aims to dispel myths about bats and highlight their ecological importance, specifically their role in environmental balance and their use of echolocation to navigate and hunt.
