Sciences Po sets debate rules for political candidates

Sciences Po Paris has established strict guidelines for political figures visiting the institution ahead of the presidential election. Director Luis Vassy stated that the school will not serve as a platform for political rallies, emphasizing that the institution is a venue for debate rather than a stage for presenting programs without contradiction.

Under these rules, political personalities must be invited by students and must agree to participate in genuine discussions where they can be challenged. Vassy noted that this framework serves as a protection against attempts to use the school for political purposes. The policy follows previous tensions, including a Council of State decision regarding a refused conference for MEP Rima Hassan.

Vassy also reported a more peaceful campus climate following previous student mobilizations, noting that disciplinary actions have been limited to cases of sexual violence, sexism, or plagiarism.
