Scientific advancements offer new ways to measure and influence biological age
Recent scientific studies have introduced new methods for estimating and potentially influencing biological age. Researchers at Seoul National University developed an AI-based algorithm that analyzes retinal scans to estimate biological age. Published in GeroScience, the study utilizes “retinal age gap” (RAG) technology to provide a non-invasive way to detect health risks and aging patterns by examining the eye, which is closely linked to the brain and heart.
Separately, a study from the University of Sydney published in Aging Cell suggests that dietary changes can impact clinical markers of biological age within four weeks. In a study of 104 adults aged 65 to 75, researchers found that a low-fat, high-carbohydrate omnivorous diet consisting of minimally processed, fiber-rich foods resulted in a biological age reduction of 3.5 to 4.1 years compared to a high-fat control group. The findings highlight how metabolic and cardiovascular signals can respond rapidly to nutritional shifts.
