Scientific claims regarding Genghis Khan and climate change lack evidence

Recent media reports have suggested a connection between the conquests of Genghis Khan and global cooling. The narrative claims that the massive population decline and destruction of agriculture caused by the Mongol Empire in the 13th century allowed forests to regrow, which in turn sequestered approximately 700 million tons of greenhouse gases, significantly impacting atmospheric carbon dioxide levels.

However, these claims are described as scientifically unsubstantiated. While original research into historical population shifts and vegetation changes exists, the assertion that the Mongol conquests acted as a significant driver of global climate cooling is considered an exaggeration of actual research findings.
