Scientific mission monitors sea turtles in New Caledonia as Haiti faces tropical weather

In New Caledonia, a scientific expedition led by WWF is traveling to the Entrecasteaux Atolls within the Coral Sea Marine Park. This highly protected area, which has been a full reserve since early 2024, hosts approximately 40,000 green sea turtles that return annually to nest. The ten-day mission aims to study the conservation status of this population and assess the impacts of climate change on their nesting sites.

Meanwhile, in Haiti, the passage of the 47th tropical wave is causing rain and thunderstorms, particularly in the Grand Sud and West regions. While Hurricane Isaias has developed into the first hurricane of the 2026 Atlantic season in the Gulf of Mexico, it currently poses no direct threat to Haiti. Local authorities have advised citizens to stay hydrated due to high temperatures expected to reach up to 36°C.
