Scientist Lady Diana Caraballo leads cancer research lab in South Carolina

Dominican scientist Lady Diana Caraballo Galva has established her own research laboratory at the University of South Carolina in the United States. The laboratory, which began operations on July 1 and held its formal inauguration on July 26, focuses on developing new cancer therapies.

Caraballo, a graduate of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) in chemical engineering, specializes in tumor immunology and the genetic engineering of T lymphocytes. Her research aims to advance immunotherapies, which utilize the immune system to target and destroy malignant cells while minimizing damage to healthy tissue. Her work specifically targets challenges in liver cancer and pediatric cancer.

With nearly 20 years of academic and research training, Caraballo’s background includes a master’s degree in biochemical engineering from France and a doctorate in molecular medicine from the United States.
