SCM Carola receives health and safety award at Expo Forede 2026

Sociedad Contractual Minera Carola (SCM Carola) has been recognized by the Corporation for the Development of the Atacama Region (Corproa) in the “Health and Safety” category. The award was presented during Expo Forede 2026, a major mining and business event held in the Atacama Region.

The distinction was delivered by Mining Undersecretary Álvaro González Gorroño to SCM Carola General Manager Víctor Hugo Álvarez Ávalos. The recognition highlights the company’s efforts in accident prevention, worker protection, and the strengthening of a safety culture, which has resulted in accident rates below the mining industry median.

Key safety and operational improvements implemented by the company include the development of fatal accident prevention standards, the construction of new underground evacuation routes, expanded seismic monitoring, and the installation of over 50 kilometers of fiber optics to enhance underground communications and operational control. Additionally, the company has modernized emergency response equipment and implemented physical and mental well-being programs for its staff.
