Scolacium Archaeological Park to host Carmen in flamenco
The Armonie d’Arte Festival will host a performance of “Carmen in flamenco” at the Scolacium National Archaeological Park in Calabria. Scheduled for August 13, 2026, this event marks the only Italian date for the production that year.
Created in 1983 through an artistic collaboration between Antonio Gades and Carlos Saura, this version of Carmen reinterprets the works of Bizet and Mérimée by rooting the narrative in Andalusian culture. The performance utilizes flamenco elements such as farruca, zapateado, and bulería, combined with live guitar and acting to explore themes of love, jealousy, and female freedom.
The festival is directed by Chiara Giordano and features the Antonio Gades Company.
