Scoliosis management requires early diagnosis and personalized care
Associate Professor Dr. Sezgin Bahadır Tekin, an orthopedic and traumatology specialist, has emphasized the critical importance of early diagnosis in managing scoliosis, particularly in children and adolescents. He noted that the condition, characterized by the sideways curvature of the spine, may not always present with obvious symptoms.
Key warning signs include differences in shoulder levels, asymmetrical appearance of shoulder blades, waist asymmetry, posture issues, and visible changes in the shape of the back. Early detection of these signs can significantly improve the success of treatment processes.
Dr. Tekin highlighted that treatment must be personalized based on the patient's age, the degree of spinal curvature, growth potential, and the risk of progression. While some cases may only require monitoring and preventive measures, advanced cases might necessitate surgical intervention. Modern surgical methods and technologies aim not only to correct curvature but also to preserve mobility, reduce pain, and enhance overall quality of life.
