Civitavecchia woman placed under house arrest for elder abuse

A 32-year-old woman in Civitavecchia has been placed under house arrest with an electronic bracelet following an investigation into the mistreatment of a non-self-sufficient elderly man. The man, who was the father of a deceased acquaintance of the woman, had been taken into her care but was allegedly kept in conditions of severe neglect.

Carabinieri reported finding the disoriented man living in a dark room without heating or hot water, wearing worn-out clothing, and surrounded by waste and animal excrement. Investigators allege the woman isolated the victim by preventing him from having phone calls or visitors.

The woman is accused of mistreatment of family members or cohabitants aggravated by diminished defense, abandonment of incapable persons, aggravated computer fraud, and unauthorized access to a computer system. Additionally, she is suspected of using the victim's banking credentials to transfer approximately 2,500 euros of his pension to her own accounts using fictitious justifications.
