Scorpius Labs targets international export of scorpion venom for medical use

Scorpius Labs, a scorpion breeding and venom extraction facility located in Elazığ, Turkey, is working to export venom derived from the newly registered Androctonus turkiyensis species. In its first year of operation, the facility houses over 5,000 scorpions, including 3,500 mature specimens and 2,000 juveniles, all managed under the supervision of biologists and veterinarians.

The extracted venom is processed into liquid or lyophilized (crystallized) forms for use as raw material in medical and biotechnological applications. Key uses include cancer research, the development of drugs for neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis and epilepsy, and the production of antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal medications, as well as dermocosmetic products.

Scorpius Labs Chairman Onur Şahin stated that the company is currently in discussions with pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms based in Germany, France, and Singapore. The facility aims to conduct its first international shipment once these agreements are finalized.
