Scosche PowerFlux 70 GaN charger reviewed; iPhone 17 Pro Max heating with 40W fast charge
The Scosche PowerFlux 70 is a GaN‑based wall charger that supplies up to 70 W through USB‑C ports. In testing it powered a notebook, an iPhone 17 Pro Max, a Motorola Signature phone and an Apple Watch, automatically distributing power among connected devices. The enclosure is made from about 75 % post‑consumer recycled plastic and retails for roughly €35 in Europe. When multiple ports are used the total output is shared, so individual ports do not always deliver the full 70 W.
Separate user reports note that the iPhone 17 Pro Max can become noticeably warm while charging with a 40 W fast charger, even when the charger is an original Apple unit. The heat is attributed to the high power draw during the first half of the charge cycle, the metal/titanium frame’s thermal properties, and background tasks running at the same time. Recommended mitigation steps include removing the case, avoiding intensive use (gaming, video calls) while charging, and relying on iOS’s built‑in throttling. Persistent overheating may indicate a hardware issue that should be addressed with Apple support.
