Puma Posts Q2 2026 Loss Despite Record Gross Margin

Puma SE reported a net loss of €72.8 million for the second quarter of 2026, while its revenue fell 9.4% year‑on‑year to €1.69 billion. The German sports‑wear maker achieved a record gross margin of 48.0%, driven by a shift away from low‑margin wholesale channels toward direct sales, which now account for 35.2% of turnover. The cost‑to‑revenue ratio rose, turning the margin advantage into a loss, though free cash flow improved to €328.8 million.

Chief Executive Arthur Hoeld described 2026 as a transition year, reaffirmed the full‑year guidance and said the company expects sales to pick up in the second half of 2026. The outlook includes a plan to resume profitable growth from 2027, supported by a restructuring of the brand and potential new investment from Anta Sports. Puma’s shares slipped roughly 6% in early trading after the results were released.

Analysts noted that while the loss was larger than expected, the strong margin and strategic repositioning could lay the groundwork for future earnings recovery.
