Scotland braced for heavy rain as summer draws to a close

The UK Met Office has issued a forecast of heavy rain for large parts of Scotland, with showers expected to hit 29 counties including Aberdeenshire, Argyll, and Highland regions. Temperatures are set to fall, offering relief to those uneasy about lingering summer heat. Met Office meteorologist Honor Criswick noted that the rain will be "heavy and thundery" across the north, while lighter showers may affect central areas.

The forecast comes as August approaches, and the Met Office predicts the early‑month wet spell will be brief, followed by a period of drier, settled weather later in the month. The earlier rainfall has already helped firefighters battling a large wildfire in the Cairngorms, though the fire danger remains elevated.
