Scotland food and drink sector receives £6m funding boost

The Scottish Government is providing nearly £6 million in capital investment to support the food and drink sector. Administered by Scotland Food & Drink, the Food and Drink Processing Scheme Scotland (FDPSS) is a competitive grant programme that offers up to £400,000 per project to 28 businesses across the nation.

The funding aims to enhance productivity, drive innovation, and support sustainability and net-zero goals. Eligible projects include infrastructure upgrades such as new building construction, refurbishment, advanced cold storage, and modern machinery. Beneficiaries include a Highland egg producer, a potato processor in the Borders, a whisky malting facility in the Western Isles, and a Fife-based cheese company.

Economy Secretary Stephen Flynn recently visited Simon Howie Foods in Perthshire to highlight the impact of the scheme. The butcher was awarded over £295,000 to implement automated slicing, tray filling, and labelling technology.
