Scotland provides council tax reductions to nearly 500,000 households

Nearly 462,310 households in Scotland received council tax reductions in July, according to new figures from the Scottish Government. The Council Tax Reduction (CTR) scheme provides financial assistance to low-income households, with some receiving reductions of up to 100 per cent. The estimated weekly support provided through the scheme is £8.9 million.

Advice Direct Scotland noted that rising council tax and energy bills have increased financial pressure on families. The organization emphasized the importance of accessing entitled support to manage priority debts and avoid enforcement actions, such as wage or bank account arrestments, which can occur due to unresolved arrears.
