Scotland rail lines to close amid Storm Boelo warnings

Network Rail Scotland has announced the closure of several rail lines across western and northern Scotland due to the impact of Storm Boelo. The Met Office has upgraded wind warnings to amber for mainland Scotland and islands off the west coast, effective from 9pm Saturday until 9pm Sunday. The storm is expected to bring gusts of up to 80mph, posing risks of flying debris, power cuts, and damage to buildings.

Specific service disruptions include the suspension of services south and west of Kilwinning in North Ayrshire starting Saturday night, as well as the closure of the Oban and Mallaig lines. On Sunday, closures are expected on the line between Kyle of Lochalsh and Achnashellach, and the railway between Wick and Helmsdale. Additionally, trains across large parts of Scotland will operate under speed restrictions throughout the storm's passage.
