Scotland recalls Martha Thomas and Sam Kerr for World Cup play-offs

Scotland head coach Melissa Andreatta has announced the squad for the upcoming two-legged Women’s World Cup qualifying play-off against Czechia. The squad features the return of Martha Thomas and Sam Kerr, both of whom have not featured for the national team since October of the previous year.

Thomas, a striker for Newcastle United Women, earned her recall following strong performances in the WSL2, including a two-goal performance against Sheffield United. She will be joined in the squad by Newcastle teammates Freya Gregory, Kathleen McGovern, and Rachel McLauchlan.

Sam Kerr returns to the squad with 34 caps. Andreatta highlighted Kerr’s versatility as a significant asset for the team. The play-offs are scheduled for October 9 in Pardubice and October 13 at St Mirren Park. Success in this round would advance Scotland to a second-round play-off against either Sweden or Lithuania for a spot in the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
