Scotland: Emergency services targeted during Bonfire Night disorder
Widespread disorder across Scotland on Bonfire Night resulted in seven arrests and multiple attacks on emergency responders. Under Operation Amberlight, Police Scotland launched one of its largest deployments in recent years to manage the unrest.
In Glasgow, a police vehicle was seriously damaged after being set alight, and both a police officer and an ambulance staff member sustained minor injuries when crews were targeted with fireworks while responding to a report of an injured man. In Clydebank, a derelict primary school was deliberately set on fire, an incident being treated as wilful.
In Edinburgh, firefighters were forced to withdraw from attending bin fires in the south of the city due to anti-social behaviour. Reports from areas including Oxgangs and Colinton Mains described groups of youths launching fireworks at emergency services. Similar incidents of fireworks being thrown at the public and crews were reported in Ayrshire, South Lanarkshire, and West Lothian.
