Scotland sentences two men to prison for violent sexual and domestic crimes
Two separate sentencing hearings in Scotland have resulted in prison terms for individuals convicted of violent sexual and domestic offences.
Calib McMurchie, 19, was sentenced to eight years in prison at the High Court in Edinburgh. McMurchie was found guilty of seven crimes against six victims committed when he was 16. The offences included predatory muggings of women in Edinburgh and serious sexual assaults against young girls. During one assault, McMurchie compressed a victim's throat, rendering her unconscious. Following his release, he will be subject to four years of supervision.
In a separate case, Jamie Brown, 21, was sentenced to seven and a half years at the High Court in Stirling. Brown was convicted of repeatedly raping a partner and committing domestic abuse against two partners in Bo’ness, West Lothian, and North Berwick. The court heard that the abuse, which began when Brown was 15, involved physical violence such as headbutting, punching, and the use of a knife. The victims required hospital treatment and were left in considerable fear.
