Scotland to implement £2 bus fare cap and NHS reforms

First Minister John Swinney has announced a £2 bus fare cap for the west of Scotland, effective this coming Monday. The cap will apply to areas including Glasgow, Renfrewshire, Ayrshire, Dunbartonshire, Lanarkshire, and Inverclyde.

In his Programme For Government, Swinney also detailed significant structural reforms to the NHS in Scotland. The plan involves restructuring the service into two main health boards covering the east and west of the mainland, with a separate board dedicated to northern island communities. Swinney described this as the most significant reform of the NHS in the devolution era.

Additionally, the Scottish Government has launched a consultation regarding plans to cap the prices of essential supermarket foods, such as bread, milk, and cheese, to assist with cost-of-living pressures. The public has until November 24 to provide feedback on the proposal.
