Scotland to match £10m for two new defence skills colleges
The Scottish Government has confirmed it will match £10 million in UK Government funding to establish two new Defence Technical Excellence Colleges (DTECs) in Scotland. This partnership aims to develop specialized skills for high-paying careers in sectors such as defence engineering, advanced manufacturing, and maritime technology.
Plans are currently underway to locate the colleges in the east and west of the country. The initiative is designed to support industrial growth and ensure the workforce is equipped for emerging roles within the defence sector, which currently contributes £3.7 billion to the Scottish economy.
A consultation will follow to determine which specific colleges will be granted DTEC status and to finalize the implementation of the scheme.
