The Balvenie unveils 88-year-old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

The Balvenie has unveiled an 88-year-old Single Malt Scotch Whisky, which is considered the oldest expression in the distillery’s history and potentially the oldest single malt currently on the market. Distilled in 1931 and bottled in 2019 by Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie, the whisky was matured in a European oak sherry butt sourced from Jerez, Spain.

The release is part of the 1931 Collection, which also includes 12-year-old and 15-year-old expressions made from home-malted barley. To mark the occasion, the distillery collaborated with American artist Daniel Arsham, who designed a sculptural bronze form and a hand-blown crystal decanter for the presentation.

This release surpasses the previous record held by the Gordon & MacPhail 85-year-old Glenlivet. The 88-year-old whisky is limited to just 17 bottles.
