ScotRail records busiest Sunday since 2022 with over 200,000 journeys

ScotRail logged 201,463 passenger journeys on Sunday 26 July, the highest Sunday total since the operator returned to public ownership in April 2022. The surge was driven by tens of thousands of attendees travelling to Commonwealth Games events in Glasgow, including bowls, weightlifting, netball, swimming, boxing, basketball and gymnastics.

The record figures form part of a strong summer trend, with more than seven million journeys recorded in June. Extra services were added to stations such as Dalmarnock, Exhibition Centre and Scotstounhill, alongside additional evening trains, to support the Games and other summer festivals and concerts, including TRNSMT, Take That, Zach Bryan, Luke Combs and the Summer Sessions at Bellahouston. ScotRail also announced further service enhancements for the upcoming Edinburgh Festivals, and staff have been deployed across the network to provide travel information and assistance.
