ScotRail recorded 7,069,000 passenger journeys during the four‑week June period, a rise of 378,000 journeys (6 %) compared with the same period last year. The increase is linked to a busy summer events season, with the operator supporting concerts such as TRNSMT, Take That at Barclays Hampden, Zach Bryan at Scottish Gas Murrayfield and the Summer Sessions in Glasgow’s Bellahouston Park, as well as leisure travel to towns, cities and attractions across Scotland.
Mark Ilderton, ScotRail Service Delivery Director, said: “It’s encouraging to see more than seven million passenger journeys in June, with six per cent more people choosing ScotRail than during the same period last year.” He added that the railway expects further high demand ahead of the Commonwealth Games, the Edinburgh Festivals and additional sell‑out concerts.
The figures build on last summer’s success and underscore a continuing trend of increasing rail usage for major events and tourism in Scotland.
