Scots Language Awards announce 2026 shortlist

The 2026 Scots Language Awards have announced their shortlist, with public voting now open until Friday, 11 September. Organized by the cultural advocacy group Hands Up for Trad, the awards recognize individuals and organizations for their efforts to showcase the richness and distinctiveness of the Scots language.

Among the nominees is Our Lady of Peace Primary School in Linwood, which is shortlisted for the Scots Schuil o the Year award alongside Banff Academy, Peterhead Academy, Perth High School, and Airdrie Academy. Other notable nominees include author Yvonne Tait, who is up for the Scots Book o the Year prize for her debut release, and songwriter Claire White, nominated for the Scots Language in the Media prize for her work on BBC Radio Shetland.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony held at Discovery Point in Dundee on Saturday, 19 September. The event will be hosted by ambassadors Lynne Campbell and Taylor Dyson and will feature performances by artists such as Iona Fyfe, Scott Gardiner, and Hugh Macmillan.
