Scott Barlow released by Kansas City Royals

The Kansas City Royals have released veteran right-handed pitcher Scott Barlow. Barlow, a former Dodgers prospect with nine years of MLB experience, had been pitching for the Royals’ Triple-A affiliate, the Omaha Storm Chasers.

Barlow signed a minor-league deal with the Royals on July 1 following his release from the Oakland Athletics. During his brief stint in Omaha, he posted a 5.65 ERA over 11 games. Analysts noted a significant decline in his velocity, with his sinker and four-seam fastball averaging approximately 88–89 mph, down from career averages in the 92–93 mph range.

Throughout his career, Barlow has appeared in 476 games, recording a 3.79 ERA and 79 saves. His previous professional stops include the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, Cleveland Guardians, Cincinnati Reds, and the Athletics.
