Scott Chilton faces gross misconduct hearing over police relationships

A gross misconduct hearing has commenced for former Hampshire and Isle of Wight Chief Constable Scott Chilton regarding allegations of undisclosed sexual relationships with female officers.

Mr. Chilton has admitted to one relationship, acknowledging that his failure to disclose it fell below professional standards. However, he strongly denies other allegations, including having sex with an officer while on duty and dishonestly denying relationships to senior police figures. He characterized the matters as historic relationships between consenting adults that did not influence policing decisions or professional responsibilities.

Mr. Chilton did not attend the hearing, with his counsel stating he is suffering from medical issues resulting from the proceedings. The disciplinary panel, chaired by HM Inspector of Constabulary Michelle Skeer, will determine if the allegations constitute gross misconduct. The investigation was launched by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) following his retirement in April 2025.
