Scott Dixon to Leave Chip Ganassi Racing After 24‑Year Tenure
Chip Ganassi Racing announced that six‑time IndyCar champion Scott Dixon will not return for the 2027 season, ending a partnership that began in 2002. Team owner Chip Ganassi said Dixon informed the team of his decision, adding that the organization had offered a multi‑year contract but respected his choice to pursue a different path. Dixon, 45, has won six series championships and 58 of his 59 career victories with Ganassi, making him second all‑time in IndyCar wins.
The driver’s departure has sparked speculation that he will join Arrow McLaren for 2027, potentially alongside reigning Indianapolis 500 winner Felix Rosenqvist. Both reports and insider comments point to the Arrow McLaren lineup of Pato O'Ward, Rosenqvist and Dixon, though neither team has issued an official confirmation. Dixon is currently 10th in the 2026 standings with a best finish of third at Long Beach and one top‑five result.
Ganassi emphasized that the focus now is on finishing the season strongly with the No. 9 PNC car while planning for the team’s future. The move marks one of the longest driver‑team relationships in modern motorsport and is expected to create a notable reshuffle in the IndyCar driver market.
