Scott Gillingham begins second term as Winnipeg Mayor

Mayor Scott Gillingham has returned to office for his second term in Winnipeg after securing nearly 40 per cent of the vote. His first day involved coordinating with a significantly altered city council, as more than half of the ward representatives are new to their seats following the recent civic election.

Gillingham plans to hold individual meetings with all 15 councillors to establish priorities. Key policy objectives for his new term include securing provincial funding for the North End Sewage Treatment Plant and implementing a community crisis response line for mental health calls to alleviate pressure on emergency services.

Additionally, the mayor committed $100,000 in funding to a joint initiative between the Winnipeg police and Ka Ni Kanichuk to address open illegal drug use. The inaugural council meeting is scheduled for November 3.
