Scott McTominay to undergo cardiac surgery in London

Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay is scheduled to undergo cardiac ablation surgery in London to treat a mild and benign case of cardiac fibrillation. The procedure was timed to coincide with the international break to minimize his absence from competitive play.

Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna stated that the recovery process will include two weeks of rest and a 28-day period to achieve medical clearance for sports, as the player will be required to take anticoagulant medication. While the club aims to have him back in action by October, some specialists suggest full recovery and return to training could take longer, potentially extending into November.

McTominay's absence will impact both club and country, as he is expected to miss Napoli’s Champions League opener against Arsenal and upcoming Serie A fixtures, as well as Scotland’s Nations League matches.

In addition to medical concerns, reports indicate potential contract complications. There is currently a gap between the player's salary expectations and the club's current structure, leading to speculation that a failure to reach a renewal agreement could result in a transfer during the January window.
