Scott Wiener, Connie Chan in Tight Race for Pelosi's Congressional Seat
New polling data shows a close contest between State Senator Scott Wiener and San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan for the congressional seat formerly held by Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi. A Chan‑commissioned poll gave Wiener a 45% lead to Chan’s 40%, while a survey backed by a housing‑affordable‑guarantee committee placed Wiener at 39% and Chan at 38%, with a sizable share of voters still undecided.
Fundraising totals highlight the financial disparity: Wiener’s campaign has raised over $4.5 million in total contributions and holds more than $1.2 million cash on hand, whereas Chan has raised about $1.1 million overall, ending June with roughly $362,000 cash. Chan’s campaign cites an endorsement from former mayoral candidate Saikat Chakrabarti and points to a recent surge in donations, while Wiener’s team references a spike in contributions after a video of him being confronted by pro‑Palestinian protesters. Both campaigns continue to court undecided voters, including those who supported eliminated primary candidates.
