World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler revealed he competed in the BMW Championship while suffering from hand, foot, and mouth disease. The viral illness caused painful blisters on his hands and feet, as well as a sore throat, making it difficult to grip his clubs during the tournament.

Scheffler finished the event tied for 12th place. He admitted that he considered withdrawing but chose to continue due to his strong form and a sense of stubbornness. Despite the illness, he remains the leader in the FedEx Cup standings heading into the season-ending Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club.

Scheffler noted that while his hands are feeling more normal, his throat remains a concern. He is prioritizing rest to recover before the final tournament of the PGA Tour season.
