Scottish FA withdraws support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino

The Scottish Football Association (SFA) has officially withdrawn its support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino, announcing it will not vote for his re-election in March 2027. SFA Chief Executive Ian Maxwell stated the decision aligns with UEFA's position following a loss of confidence in FIFA's leadership.

The move follows intense scrutiny over Infantino's unsuccessful attempt to partially privatize the World Cup through the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE). The proposal, which aimed to sell a minority stake to private investors to raise billions, faced backlash from major confederations including UEFA, AFC, and CONCACAF, who accused the leadership of a lack of transparency and engagement with member associations.

Scotland joins several other nations, including England, Wales, and Ireland, in withdrawing support. While Infantino currently remains the sole candidate for the 2027 election, the growing opposition from European and other international football bodies has placed his leadership under significant pressure.
