Scottish football pyramid structure and league updates

The Scottish football pyramid is a connected structure that links top-tier clubs like Rangers and Celtic to amateur and local leagues. The Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) administers the top four senior divisions, which consist of 42 clubs: 12 in the Premiership and 10 each in the Championship, League One, and League Two.

Promotion and relegation systems connect these tiers. The top three leagues feature one automatic relegation spot and one playoff spot. Conversely, the Championship, League One, and League Two each offer one automatic promotion spot and three playoff positions. Below the SPFL, the fifth tier comprises 51 clubs across the Highland Football League and the Lowland Football League (East and West divisions). The sixth tier includes 92 clubs spread across six regional leagues, including the North Caledonian, North of Scotland, and West of Scotland Football Leagues.

In recent league action, Dumbarton has shown strength at home, while Forfar Athletic has struggled in away matches. In League Two, Clyde has maintained an impressive run, sitting at the top of the table, while Elgin City has faced recent losses in league play.
