Scottish Government announces funding for Glasgow landmarks and watersports centre

The Scottish Government has announced significant funding for the refurbishment of key landmarks and facilities. Up to £14 million in conditional funding has been pledged for the restoration of Glasgow’s People’s Palace and Winter Gardens. This investment, which joins £19.5 million already committed by Glasgow City Council, Glasgow Life, and the National Lottery Heritage Fund, aims to secure the long-term future of the Glasgow Green landmarks. The total refurbishment project is expected to cost nearly £36 million.

Additionally, the Strathclyde Country Park Watersports Centre will receive £1.18 million from the Clyde Mission Heat Decarbonisation Fund. This funding is part of a broader £25 million package intended to reduce emissions across the Clyde Corridor. The project will replace gas boilers with a 400 kW closed-loop water source heat pump system and solar panels, aiming to reduce annual emissions by 90%. The redevelopment, led by North Lanarkshire Council, is part of a £15.5 million overhaul to transform the facility into a sustainable health and tourism hub.
