Scottish Government backs Shetland clean‑fuel hub and youth‑centre renewable project

The Scottish Government has allocated almost £760,000 to Veri Energy for the third phase of a clean‑fuels hub at the Sullom Voe Terminal in Shetland. The hub, slated to operate by 2030, will produce hydrogen and e‑methanol, create jobs, retain oil‑and‑gas skills and support Scotland’s net‑zero targets.

In a separate investment, the government, together with the National Lottery Community Fund, announced £10 million for the Scalloway Youth and Community Project. New heat pumps, solar panels and a battery system now generate about 99 % of the centre’s electricity. Energy minister Stephen Gethins visited the site and said he was “blown away” by the renewable achievements.
