Scottish Labour leadership candidates call for unity in Glasgow

Candidates vying to lead Scottish Labour have called for party unity and structural reform during a hustings event in Glasgow. Monica Lennon, Joe Fagan, and Michael Marra presented their visions to succeed Anas Sarwar following the party’s most significant electoral defeat in the Holyrood Parliament since devolution.

Monica Lennon described the current state of the party as its ‘worst ever crisis,’ urging members to move away from the ‘old ways’ to avoid ‘electoral oblivion.’ She also cautioned against factionalism and internal smears. Joe Fagan emphasized his commitment to uniting the party, while Michael Marra criticized ‘negative cowardly briefings’ and argued that the party’s issues extend beyond mere organizational structures.

The event was briefly interrupted by shouts from pro-Palestine protesters during its opening stage.
