Scottish man jailed for racially-motivated Belfast riots

Reece Dunnett, a 25-year-old man from Dunfermline, has been sentenced to 27 months in prison for his involvement in racially-motivated violent disorder in Belfast during the summer of 2024. Pleading guilty to counts of rioting and criminal damage at Laganside Crown Court, Dunnett will serve half of his sentence in custody and the remainder on licence.

According to the Police Service of Northern Ireland, Dunnett was captured on footage participating in disorder in the Sandy Row and Donegall Road areas on August 3, 2024. His actions included helping a crowd dismantle a building site fence, throwing masonry and a scaffold plank at police lines, and assisting in the overturning of two vehicles that were subsequently set on fire.
