Scottish plant-hire firms invest in Caterpillar machinery
Scottish plant-hire companies are expanding their fleets with new Caterpillar equipment to meet growing infrastructure demands.
BDS Plant Hire, based in Orkney, has transitioned to the latest generation of Cat pavers to improve operational efficiency and precision. The company moved away from its long-standing use of Bitelli products to adopt newer Caterpillar technology, citing advancements in automation and fuel efficiency.
In a separate expansion, Kilmarnock-based KT Montgomery has invested £8 million in new Cat machines through Finning UK & Ireland. This investment aims to support upcoming highway, quarrying, and energy infrastructure projects across the UK. Caterpillar equipment now constitutes approximately 80 per cent of KT Montgomery’s fleet as part of a strategy to maintain modern, high-specification machinery.
